But one group of people that don’t have these advantages, found their own solution – do-it-yourself full-spectrum bulbs.

1. Take an empty 1.5 litre clear plastic bottle.
2. Fill with water and a little bleach.
3. Punch a hole in the roof and make a water-tight seal for your bottle.

The sun now comes through with the light of a 55 watt lightbulb – all without electricity.

Viva-Lite partners Ad-Lux were responsible for the full-spectrum lights throughout the house and reported from the opening party that under the Viva Lite lamps the colors of the house are real and beautiful.

From time to time we are checking the internet for what people say about Viva-Lite. That way we can learn a lot how our customers perceive our brand, products and services.

“We planted Tulasi at home last summer. When she was very little we bought her a 26 W Viva-lite full-spectrum bulb. She was doing well with it. She grew very strong stalk and large, green leaves. Recently we felt she needs more light. We arranged two 36 W fluorescent Viva-lite tubes for her. In Scandinavia there is hardly any natural light at this time of the year!

As far as I’ve understood, plants benefit mostly from certain wavelengths of light. In order to grow nicely, they need more cool or blue light. When they are blooming, they require some red wavelengths, too. Visual color temperature is measured by the degree of Kelvin. That’s what you have to pay attention to when choosing light for Tulasi.

Full-spectrum lights are as close as it artificially gets to a natural mid-day sun during the late summer. Viva-lite bulbs/tubes have 5500 K which resembles normal daylight. They imitate all wavelengths of light to some degree. Because they have a very high color rendering index (CRI), they don’t distort the actual color impression around them. Lights that have low CRI make everything look weird, either yellow or strangely blue.

The standard incandescent or halogen lamps have around 2500-3000 K, which is not useful for plants. They also emanate a lot of heat and waste energy.”

In Seinäjoki, Finland, there was a Jämerä-Stonehouse (made of aircrate) showing on 21.2.2009. What made that occasion very special, was the lighting of the house: the whole house was lighted with Viva-Lite fullspectrum daylight lamps, both compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and fluorescent tubes (FSL).

There is plenty of good light in the house which is very important because the family has children. Children need a lot of daylight to be able to develop in a good way. The lighting was carried out mostly indirectly by Viva-Lite fullspectrum lamps and tubes. The family is very satisfied with this lighting.

Here the 226 sqm, 2-storey, 7-room Jämerä-Stonehouse almost completed.	Hallway. A Jasmina 2×36 W -fixture.Very adequate lighting. Good visibility.
“Dirt” entry. A Jasmina 2×18 W -fixture. Good visibility.	Kitchen. Underneath the cupboard there are normal (14, 21, 28, 35 W) IP64 Saalinki-fixtures. The moulding will be fitted to prevent glare. Their electronics (ballast) are placed on top of the cupboard.
Kitchen. Saalinki-fixtures on top of the cupboards. High Power lamps (24, 39, 49 ja 54 W) are being used. Exellent visibility on the desk.	Kitchen. A Milano 2×54 W pendant lamp. The lighting in kitchen is of more than 30 W/sqm.
